Preventive dental care
The county councils' and the regions' own Folktand care's most crucial job is providing preventive dental care for children and young people. Folktand Care has been offering children and teenagers routine, free dental care for more than 30 years. As a result, Swedish kids have excellent dental health. In 2000, six out of ten 12-year-olds did not have even one tooth with a hole in it.
In Sweden, even the majority of adults enjoy decent oral health. For instance, compared to 20 years ago, there are now twice as many adults between the ages of 75 and 84 who have their own teeth.

The Dental Care Act is one of the laws and government rules that governs dental care (1985: 125).
The National Board of Health and Welfare also uniformizes dental treatment through rules and general recommendations.
Since dental care is a component of health care, the majority of the regulations governing health care also apply to this industry.
The body that chooses which procedures should be covered by the high-cost dental care protection is the Dental Care and Medications Benefit Agency (TLV). The reference costs for certain dental measures are likewise determined by TLV.
